Black Hawk 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
2020 climb registration will open in July and is open to the public. The 2020 event will be held virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions. We encourage you to participate in support of NFFF according to your comfort level.
Climb With Others Worldwide as a Virtual Climber
Register today!
Although we have been apart for most of 2020, you can still make the 2,200 step journey with us virtually! Sign up to be a virtual climber and personalize your tribute. Visit http://events.firehero.org/blackhawk.
When you participate in our Virtual Stair Climb, you can complete the climb or 9.11k walk/run for a 9/11 hero on a date and time that you choose. Each climb remembers a hero and helps the FDNY Counseling Services Unit and National Fallen Firefighters Foundation assist their families. The NFFF and Black Hawk have designed a special Virtual Stair Climb Toolkit to help you prepare for and use during your climb.
Unable to Join Us for Climb Event, But Still Want to Help? Be a Climb Supporter!
You can be a Climb Supporter for many of our stair climb events by registering as “Climb Support” for the event. This is a great way to help the cause or to support a buddy who is climbing.

Past climb photos are located on our Facebook page. Thank you to the Ameristar Casino Resort Spa, Black Hawk Fire, Gilpin Ambulance Authority, and all participants who joined us at the 2019 climb. It was once again a memorable and emotional event. Although unique format this year, we are looking forward to another successful climb in 2020. Thank you for your continued support of the NFFF.
Tribute to a Heroic Journey
The City of Black Hawk 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a way for first responders and the general public to remember September 11, 2001, honor the memory of those who were lost, and support a worthwhile cause. Your individual tribute not only remembers their sacrifice, but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others. Participants climb to pay tribute to the fallen 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, 8 EMT’s, and 3 state officers whose photos and names line the stairwells.
The Black Hawk 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb began in 2009 at the Ameristar Casino Resort Spa in Black Hawk, Colorado with just a few members of the Black Hawk Fire Department and Gilpin Ambulance Authority climbing to honor those who were lost on September 11, 2001. Over the years, the memorial climb has grown to involve other fire departments, City personnel, business partners, casino staff, family, and friends.
